What makes e-commerce SEO different?

E-commerce SEO is mostly a scale problem. A store with a few hundred products can generate tens of thousands of URLs through filters, sorting, variants and pagination. If search engines spend their time on low-value combinations, important category and product pages get crawled less and rank worse.

Which pages should an online store prioritise?

Category pages usually match the highest-volume, commercial searches ("cotton kurtas for women", "running shoes for flat feet"), so they deserve the most attention: a helpful introduction, clear filters, internal links to sub-categories and answers to buying questions. Product detail pages (PDPs) need unique descriptions, specifications, real photos, reviews and accurate Product schema with price and availability.

How should faceted navigation be handled?

Decide which filter combinations have real search demand — for example "brand + category" — and give those clean, indexable URLs with unique titles and copy. Other combinations should be canonicalised to the parent category, kept out of the index, or not linked as crawlable URLs. The right mix depends on your platform, so we test changes and watch crawl stats in Search Console.

Marketplace or D2C — where should brands invest?

Marketplaces such as Amazon and Flipkart offer demand and logistics, but you share the customer and pay commissions. A D2C store gives you margin, data and the relationship. Most brands do both: use marketplaces for reach, and invest in SEO, content, email and WhatsApp to build demand on channels you own.

Why do product feeds matter for SEO and ads?

Google Merchant Center feeds power both free product listings and Shopping ads. Accurate titles, GTINs, prices, availability and images improve eligibility and relevance. We treat the feed as a core SEO and performance marketing asset, not an afterthought.

Give indexable, optimised URLs only to filter combinations with real search demand, and canonicalise or keep the rest out of the index so search engines focus on your important pages.

Both matter, but category pages usually match the highest-volume commercial searches. Product pages need unique descriptions, reviews and accurate Product schema.

Many do. Marketplaces offer reach and logistics; your own store offers margin, data and customer relationships. A balanced plan uses marketplaces for reach while building demand on owned channels.

Google Merchant Center feeds power free product listings and Shopping ads. Accurate titles, identifiers, prices, availability and images improve eligibility and relevance.
